I enjoyed flickr, generators, wiki, podcasts and web tools and of course the YouTube. The collaborative aspects of some of these "Things" were simply awesome and will benefit our system. I look forward to our system taking giant steps towards Library 2. This learning experience brought excitment and it almost felt like a "Treasure Hunt" game! I'm glad I participated and feel good about completing it.
Yes, I would be interested in the next training, but please do not start in the summer as we have our "summer reading programs!"
Thinking about the summer reading program makes me want to take off in that airplane for a long vacation!!Northern Lightshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14088622412323133722noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6926968156999464194.post-67441891647698801732007-03-29T13:13:00.000-07:002007-04-02T14:37:20.445-07:00Thing # 22 eAudiobooks/ NetLibraryI was kind of familiar with this since I have helped customers get an account. I got myself an account this time. I browsed the Netlibrary by Subject. I looked at the titles under YP non fiction and it had 4 eAudiobooks and one of them was 2002 edition. I also looked at the Health and Medicne category. I liked the "eBook of the month" feature. I did not download any ebook at this time.Northern Lightshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14088622412323133722noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6926968156999464194.post-21753566719361068402007-03-22T13:28:00.000-07:002007-03-22T13:53:20.477-07:00Thing # 21 PodcastsI added Brave and Brass Book Blog feed to my Bloglines. It's a Penguin Podcast site and has interviews with Teen authors to promote books. I enjoyed listening to Anthony Horowitz, he talked about his Strombreaker movie and how he came up with his character Alex Rider for his books. He sounds like a great speaker and his english accent was cool! Wish we could invite him to speak at Cascades!! At some point, I would like to explore Odeo's Studio for creating a podcast that could be used for training purposes and also for teens/children's book clubs where the kids/librarians could podcast their reviews/thoughts on books etc. Adding video would be even better.Northern Lightshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14088622412323133722noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6926968156999464194.post-59801078910590772482007-03-19T11:02:00.000-07:002007-03-20T09:12:24.964-07:00Thing # 20 YouTube Kitten Combobject>Northern Lightshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14088622412323133722noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6926968156999464194.post-92072373436041877792007-03-12T11:38:00.000-07:002007-03-13T09:51:14.774-07:00Thing #19 Web 2.0 ToolsI took a look at the short list. I played with the real estate's propsmart and found it interesting and helpful, it would be a good site to recommend to someone who is planning a move. I also tried the pageflakes and Etsy. Library Success: A Best Practices Wiki was impressive. It is indeed a great sharing and collaborative tool. We can certainly use it in many productive ways e.g. sharing program ideas, book talks etc. There are unlimited uses of this resource.
"Teaching and learning online with Wiki" by Naomi Augar was another interesting post.
Wiki opens up the concept of "Libraries without boundaries" which I find appealing and can see it benefit the library professionals all over the world.Northern Lightshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14088622412323133722noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6926968156999464194.post-47216720254879634252007-02-20T09:21:00.000-08:002007-02-21T07:28:53.843-08:00Thing # 15I enjoyed reading John Blyberg's "11 reasons why library 2.0 exists and matters."
My thoughts on L2 can be summed up in Sarah Houshton's definition of L2:
"Libary 2.0 simply means making your library's space (virtual and physical) more interactive, collaborative, and driven by community needs. Examples of where to start include blogs, gaming nights for teens, and collaborative photo sites. The basic drive is to get people back into the library by making the library rrelevant to what they want and need in their daily lives...to make the library a destination and not an afterthought."

Public Libraries play a important role in the community and have a dual obligation of providing the basic service such as early literacy skills etc. as well as keeping up with Librarian 2.0. At LCPL we are providing service at most varied levels i.e. Babygarten to Blogs! This is only the beginning...Northern Lightshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14088622412323133722noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6926968156999464194.post-13587692441935711502007-02-20T09:17:00.000-08:002007-02-20T13:52:55.591-08:00Thing 14 TehnoratiThis exercise was not my favorite.
